Section outline

    • A favourite idea is dangerous not because it is bad but because its presence quietly stops the search, so every subsequent thought becomes a variation on it. This page also introduces the exploration/exploitation tension — two necessary activities that actively interfere with each other — and why ambidexterity is a real capability rather than a slogan.

    • Flexibility is not agreeing with everyone; it is holding a position firmly and still changing it when the evidence does, while what you stand for stays fixed. You will deliberately kill your own favourite idea to find out what is behind it, learn to tell a principle from a habit, and write an update condition while you are still calm enough to be fair about it.
