Two Session Structures You Can Propose in Any Team

Lesson 7. These work on the first attempt and require no authority to suggest.

Structured ideation (60 min)

Fixes production blocking, self-censorship and anchoring — and protects anyone working in a second language.

  1. Frame (5 min). One "How might we…" question, visible. No discussion.
  2. Silent generation (10 min). One idea per note, alone. Minimum eight each.
  3. Round-robin (15 min). One note each in turn, onto the wall. No evaluation.
  4. Cluster (10 min). Group and name, everyone standing and moving notes.
  5. Build (10 min). Two strongest clusters. "Yes, and…" or questions only.
  6. Select (10 min). Three dots each, placed silently. Then discuss.

Structured critique (30 min)

Stops the most confident person's taste from winning by default.

  1. Silent looking (3 min). Nobody speaks; the maker does not explain.
  2. Description round (7 min). Each person says what they see — description only, no judgement. This alone surfaces most problems.
  3. The maker speaks (3 min). Now they say what they intended. The gap between rounds 2 and 3 is the finding.
  4. What works (7 min). Specific, one point each.
  5. What I would change (7 min). Specific, about the work, one point each.
  6. The maker decides (3 min). They say what they will act on. Nobody argues.
