Activity 7 — How You Work in Groups

Time: about 45 minutes. Submit: online text.

This activity is about you, not about a project. Honesty is the whole value — nobody is scoring it, and a flattering answer wastes your own time.

Part A — The self-assessment. Think of the last group you worked in — school, work, volunteering, even a family decision. Answer all six questions from the lesson:

  • Did I talk more or less than the average person there?
  • Did I ever say "I don't understand" out loud?
  • When I disagreed, did I say so — and how?
  • Did I finish what I said I would do?
  • Was there someone quieter than me whose ideas never got heard? What did I do about it?
  • When my idea was not chosen, how did I behave for the next week?

Part B — Your roles. From the eight roles in the lesson, name the two you would most want and could realistically hold. For each, one sentence on why you would be good at it. Then name the one that would stretch you most.

Part C — Three commitments. Three specific things you will do differently in your next team. Specific means "I will ask one named quiet person for their view in every meeting," not "I will listen better."

Part D — The structures. In your own words, explain why silent generation before discussion improves a group's ideas. Three or four sentences. If you can explain it, you can propose it.
