One of the most important insights in intercultural communication is this: good intentions are not enough. You can want to connect with someone from another culture and still accidentally offend, exclude, or misunderstand them — because you are using your own cultural assumptions as a default.
As you watch, pay attention to:
• How cultural differences in communication style (direct vs. indirect, formal vs. informal) can create confusion even between people with no hostile intent.
• What the speaker suggests as a practical mindset shift — from 'my way is normal' to 'different ways are all normal.'
• Can you think of a moment when a cultural difference — in your school, workplace, or community — led to a misunderstanding? What would have helped?
