Leadership rarely begins with leading.
Most youth leaders first gained experience by volunteering, learning from others, and gradually taking on more responsibility. As they became more confident, they started coordinating activities, supporting new volunteers, facilitating workshops, or managing small projects.
Leadership is not about doing everything yourself. It is about helping others succeed, encouraging participation, and creating an environment where everyone feels able to contribute.
As your experience grows, new opportunities may become available. You might coordinate a volunteer team, become a youth representative, facilitate training sessions, contribute to international partnerships, or mentor newcomers joining your organisation.
The journey looks different for everyone. Some people remain active volunteers for many years, while others choose to become project managers, youth workers, board members, or founders of new initiatives.
Leadership begins when you stop asking, "What can I do?" and start asking, "How can we achieve this together?"
