International volunteering brings together people from different countries to work towards a common goal. Projects may take place abroad, online, or combine both formats. Regardless of where volunteers are located, they share knowledge, exchange experiences, and contribute to initiatives that benefit communities.

International volunteering can take different forms. Some projects last only a few weeks and focus on cultural exchange or community activities. Others continue for several months and allow volunteers to become part of an organisation's daily work. Increasingly, organisations also involve volunteers remotely through online mentoring, translation, communication, research, graphic design, or digital campaigns.

Beyond supporting communities, international volunteering helps participants develop valuable competences. Working with people from different backgrounds strengthens intercultural communication, teamwork, adaptability, and problem-solving. Many volunteers also report increased confidence, independence, and a stronger sense of European and global citizenship.

Did you know?

You do not always need to travel abroad to gain international experience. Many youth organisations work in international teams online, allowing volunteers from different countries to collaborate on shared projects.
