While many volunteering opportunities can be found through local organisations, many countries also have national volunteering networks and platforms that connect volunteers with organisations across the country.

These platforms make it easier to discover opportunities based on your location, interests, or preferred type of volunteering. They often bring together hundreds of organisations in one place, allowing you to explore different causes, learn about upcoming events, and connect with projects that match your skills and availability. Many also provide useful information about volunteering, training opportunities, and ways to become more involved in civic life.

Below are a few examples of national volunteering platforms:

🇮🇹 Italy – CSVnet

CSVnet is the national association of Volunteer Service Centres in Italy. It supports thousands of civil society organisations by providing training, networking opportunities, and resources for volunteers and NGOs. It also helps strengthen volunteering at the local and national levels.

🇺🇦 Ukraine – Ukrainian Volunteer Service (UVS)

The Ukrainian Volunteer Service promotes volunteering across the country by connecting volunteers with organisations, sharing opportunities, providing educational resources, and encouraging active citizenship. It has also played an important role in supporting volunteer initiatives during times of crisis.

🇲🇩 Moldova – Platforma Voluntarilor

Platforma Voluntarilor helps young people discover volunteering opportunities throughout Moldova while promoting civic engagement and cooperation between volunteers, organisations, and local communities.

Explore opportunities in your own country

Every country has its own volunteering ecosystem. Some have national volunteering centres or dedicated online platforms, while others coordinate opportunities through youth councils, umbrella NGOs, municipalities, or government agencies.

If your country is not listed above, spend a few minutes searching online for terms such as:

  • national volunteering platform;
  • volunteer opportunities;
  • youth volunteering;
  • volunteer centre;
  • youth organisations.

You may be surprised by how many opportunities already exist.

Remember that not every organisation advertises nationally. Many local NGOs recruit volunteers through community events, schools, universities, youth centres, or their own social media pages. If you cannot find the right opportunity immediately, don't be discouraged — new opportunities appear throughout the year, and many organisations welcome volunteers who take the initiative to contact them directly.

Reflection

Have you ever searched for volunteering opportunities in your own country? Take a few minutes to explore what is available. You might discover organisations or projects that you had never heard of before and that align with your interests and values.
