This glossary introduces key concepts that help explain how local social problems are connected to wider systems, global developments, and international frameworks.

The entries follow a learning path that begins with problems experienced in local communities and gradually explores local–global connections, global challenges, systemic factors, inequality, interdependence, and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Read the numbered entries in order. Each entry includes a definition, explanation, and examples showing how the concept relates to real social issues.

As you read, consider:

  • How can a problem experienced locally be influenced by wider systems or global trends?
  • Which economic, social, political, environmental, technological, or cultural factors may be involved?
  • How can global frameworks help communities understand and respond to local challenges?

After reading, choose at least one entry and add a short comment of approximately 50–80 words. In your comment, you may:

  • Give an example from your community
  • Explain how the concept relates to a local social problem
  • Share an insight from the presentation
  • Describe a local–global connection you have noticed

You are welcome to comment on additional entries that interest you.
